Connecting to Scattergood MOO is easy and can be done in a number of ways.
- The most basic method of connecting to the MOO is through telnet. Most computers have a built-in telnet client which will display the MOO just fine. This has a lot of limitations, though. Most versions do not allow for pasting, some don’t display color, and most make it difficult to backspace without debris making its way into your text. For this reason, most players use telnet only to try MU*s out for the first time and not on a long-term basis. If you would like to connect directly with telnet, direct your telnet terminal to sgmoo.com port 1111 or click here.
- Another method is through the java client that the wizzen have provided. This client shows color and allows for normal deletion where telnet does not. It has its own series of bugs which are denoted on the java page. This may be a preferred version for many players as it does avoid some of the disadvantages of telnet.
- The most preferred method to connect is through a MU* client. To do so, direct your client to sgmoo.com port 1111. The most popular clients are listed in the links list to the right. Each offers its own set of features for player use as well as its own unique set of disadvantages which make a true ‘best’ client difficult to assert. Please Note: The wizzen can provide no support for these clients. If you have a problem with the client you are using, you are welcome to ask on the general channel on-MOO, but it would be in your best interest to go straight to whatever support forum is offered by the maker of the client.
However you choose to connect, you will be welcome to read and familiarize yourself with the game as a guest before you make a character, should you decide to do so.
