Scattergood MOO was created in September of 2001. A MOO- Short for “MUD: Object Oriented”- is a type of multi-user environment that allows players to interact with other players through text. In its original state, Scattergood was located in Boulder, Colorado. It was home to both Scattergood School for the Magical Arts and Schiller Academy.

In early 2007, Scattergood changed MOO cores from a modified version of the LambdaMOO core (a gift from the wizzen at HogwartsMOO) to a FooMOO core. The game and grid were never fully rebuilt to the original theme. In June of 2007, it was decided that the game’s theme would be revamped to something more fitting with the name of the MOO. As such, Scattergood School was moved to Pennsylvania (in fitting with its Quaker name) and the time period rolled back so as not to catch up to present day as quickly.

Scattergood’s theme is currently in the year 1950. The school is located just outside of Silverdale, Pennsylvania, which is approximately 30 miles north of Philadelphia.
